Out Of The Blue, Yale University's co-ed a cappella group, will present it's take on contemporary pop hits on 9 March 2012 at The Joyden Hall at Iluma. Tickets for the concert are on sale on our website now, secure your tickets early or give the gift of music this Christmas, discounted tickets are available for OCBC Cards and PAssion Card holders.

In the fall of 1986, a group of eight students embarked on the task of creating a new approach to a cappella at Yale; that very same group would come to be known as Out of the Blue. Since its founding, OOTB has exchanged gloves and coattails for its iconic “OOT-Blue” shirts and white ties. Building upon the rich tradition of a cappella at Yale, the group has evolved to become the University’s most progressive contemporary a cappella group.

Our music is the culmination of a 24-year tradition of musical experimentation and development, and OOTB is best understood through the lens of our work. Each year the group nominates and arranges (all arrangements are done by members of the group) five to seven new songs selected from among the top popular and rock songs of the year. This ensures that each album, recorded every two years, contains the most relevant and contemporary music in collegiate a cappella. We refine and rehearse our music and choreography for six hours each week to ensure we approach each performance with a high level of musical excellence.

Each year, the group travels on three tours to share its music with audiences across the world in new and exciting locations. We’ve traveled to Los Angeles and London; we’ve sang in Switzerland, Georgia and Germany. In the upcoming year we will be touring in Montreal, Canada; Rio de Janeiro, and Brazil.

OOTB isn’t all business, though. Whether it’s a late-night trip to grab some froyo, an impromptu Arrested Development marathon, or a study-party in Bass Library, Out of the Blue is first and foremost a group of friends. Well-known to have among the most active and interested alumni groups in the a cappella community, the OOTB family is among the most close-knit, welcoming singing groups at Yale, and that chemistry helps us shine both on and off stage.

We love singing. Music is a passion for all of us, and we hope you enjoy listening to our albums and performances as much as we enjoy bringing them to you.
