FRI, 17 OCT 08 1ST INTERNATIONAL A CAPELLA FESTIVAL: ASIAN MUSIC NIGHT THE ARTS HOUSE, CHAMBER A Review by Leong Wei Shin A cappella (or "from the chapel") music originally was, and still often is, a critical staple of the religious rites in many countries. Today, it refers to an all-vocal performance of any style and can be sung in any venue. It is to me particularly unpretentious music, no longer only heard in religious sites, but in concert halls, theatres, dining places, schools and even on the streets. There can be no complaint therefore with this late invitation of savoring such vocal delights on a Friday evening in the Arts House. In fact, I was quite pleasantly surprised to find out upon my arrival that I was actually attending Singapore's very first international A Cappella Festival, jointly organized by the many reputable names.
