Vocal Obsession IV: Chart Toppers
NUS Resonance is proud to present Vocal Obsession IV: Chart Topper!! This concert is the 4th in a biennial series of concerts entitled Vocal Obsession and will be held on 26 June 2010 (Saturday), 7.30pm at the University Cultural Centre theatre. The theme of our fourth biennale concert is “Chart Toppers”, honouring and featuring songs of the past two decades ranging from the soulful ballads and heartfelt duets, to the boy-band and girls group era that dominates radio up till today. Whatever the song, the artistes covering the selections would have been or are definitely household names. It is our pleasure to bring back familiar tunes with an infusion of a cappella style. Some of the songs we will be singing include tunes from well known artistes such as Jay Chou, Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Alicia Keys and many many more! The Yale Whim 'n Rhythm
Whim 'n Rhythm of Yale University is the premier undergraduate female a cappella singing group in the US. Delighting audiences from Maine to Hong Kong, from Club Med to the White House, Whim 'n Rhythm brings professional musicianship, a strong spirit, and an elegant presence to every performance. Whim 'n Rhythm's eclectic selection of songs appeals to a wide variety of musical tastes, and concerts are tailored to fit any audience. The repertoire ranges from upbeat jazz standards and classic show tunes to contemporary pop favorites and traditional ballads. Whim was founded in 1981 by a group of seven Yale women who came together to create what had long been absent from Yale's a cappella tradition: a senior women's singing group. The original members combined their musical talent with a solid interest in promoting the equal role of women. The group has achieved world renown over the past three decades and now culminates each season with an international tour.

8-9 Jan 2010 8pm Victoria Theatre AKA A Cappella is back! Established in 1996, the acclaimed a cappella concert series will be celebrating its return after 8 years of dormancy with a bang! Helmed by a brand new team, featuring acts that are set to make you rethink your views on a cappella, AKA A Cappella will be holding its 6th installment which promises to be cutting-edge, contemporary and most of all, wildly entertaining. AKA VI will feature two of the biggest names in the local a cappella scene - Singapore’s very own Key Elements and Vocaluptuous, alongside newer groups MICappella and TONE. Hosting AKA VI this year is renowned vocal percussionist Jake Moulton, from internationally-acclaimed vocal rock band The House Jacks. These groups do much more than simply sing! Adding modern-day technology and the current trend of electronic music into the mix of traditional a cappella techniques, the performers seek to redefine and reinvent the old-fashioned ‘barbershop band’ feel so commonly associated
