Majestic - The Sound of Denmark
The Copenhagen Royal Chapel Choir is pleased to offer The A Cappella Society a 20% discount on tickets for their concert: In 2005 the choir had a great success at Esplanade Concert Hall with the concert "Songs of the Nightingale" in celebration of Hans Christian Andersen. This time Copenhagen Royal Chapel Choir is taken centre stage in Benjamin Britten's A Ceremony of Carols which was first performed by the choir under the baton of Britten himself. The choir presents magnificent sacred music written by classical masters Schütz and Tchaikovsky. The Copenhagen Royal Chapel Choirs just recently recorded Tchaikovsky's Cherubical Hymns. Other highlights include beautiful Danish songs which are known for their Nordic airiness. Rounding up this splendid concert is contemporary Danish composer Palle Mikkelborg´s masterpiece, which was first performed by the choir at the Christening of HRH prince Christian of Denmark in 2006. COPENHAGEN ROYAL CHAPEL CHOIR was founded in 1924 and since 1959 the choir has been resident at Copenhagen Cathedral and as part of its duties performs at state occasions and during royal visits abroad. Since Ebbe Munk became director of the choir in 1991 they have undertaken concerts in leading concert halls, cathedrals and festivals all over the world. Le Figaro has placed the choir alongside the Vienna Boys Choir and the Choir of King's College, Cambridge, among the finest in Europe.
