Greetings from VoCollision!
We are a 6-person Jazz-pop A Cappella group. With more than 5 years of performing experience at various events and venues, our portfolio includes high profile functions, music festivals, carnivals, shopping malls and cafe gigs and radio shows. VoCollision's repertoire ranges from jazz, bossa nova, funk to pop favorites. We have a dedicated repertoire of groovy christmas carols to add to the festive joy.
Beatz
Beatz was formed in April '09 by three guys who love beatboxing/rapping, hip hop & R&B. Our current singer joined us in September '09. All of them are trained vocally and introduced to A-Cappella singing by Mrs Angelina Choo-Sassarak. Arif, known as Mr Z, is a Javanese-Chinese guy who is the resident rapper and the creative director. He is the genius behind all our remixes and originals. Christopher, known as Chrisso on stage, is Czech-Chinese. He is our music director and makes us sound good. He can make almost any sound you can think of. Samuel, aka Fallenangel, is, well, Chinese. He's our Chinaman. He is a professional beatboxer and does lots of cool things with the mic. He makes our name good. Kathy is the queen of the group, hence Queen K. She is Chinese-Javanese-Dutch and she makes us look good. She is our singer and she tries to rap. Sometimes. Beatz does roadshows and private gigs including charity concerts. Our main genre of music is Hip-Hop and R&B, but we love trying out different genres.
Agapella
Agapella is Singapore's largest Christian contemporary a cappella group. Its name is derived from two words: 'agape' - the Greek word used to describe God's unconditional love, and 'a cappella' - the art of making music with voices alone. Agapella was formed in August 2002 when a group of young adults from different walks of life were united by a love for a cappella music and making a difference in people's lives. The group presently comprises 18 members who hold down exhilarating day jobs that have little to do with music. Among them are an award-winning artist, a lawyer who happens to be a prolific poet, an author-cum-food consultant, a radio talkshow host, an advertising guru, an HR professional, a psychologist and a sales engineer. Agapella has performed at various events from gala events, national festivals, to youth concerts and fundraising efforts. Their music has filled the streets of town and in the heartlands as well as the halls of the Esplanade, community clubs, hotels, malls, restaurant
Key Elements
Formed in early 2001, Singapore’s premier a cappella group Key Elements is made up of the key elements of three older a cappella groups: Chua Kim Beng, Jason Ong and Vaughan Tan were from pioneering outfit ‘IN-A-CHORD’, Chua Hui Lian and Susanna Pua were members of Christian group ‘bcoz’, while Benedict Goh was one of the founders of ‘Impromptu’. Recognised primarily for its repertoire of jazz standards, the group is equally adept at singing other genres and languages.
Notella
Notella is a flavourful blended a cappella group comprising of 7 male and female vocal-nuts, ranging from various collegiate a cappella, choral, classical and musical singing backgrounds. Notella is usually seen spreading tasteful tunes at wedding toasts and loves to sing for their bread and butter. Although sweet love songs are their main staple, Notella is constantly striving to explore a wide variety of songs, ranging from arrangements of Jazz ballads to Jay Chou’s mandarin pop. Brought together by a love for rich chocolatey smooth vocals and a cappella, Notella hopes to bring Christmas cheer, peace and goodwill with its spiritually nutritious balance of harmonies. Note: Notella contains no artificial coloring of instrumentation or non-vocal percussionists.
Notes from an Island
Vocaluptuous’ new album, entitled Notes from an Island, presents a collection of songs in English, Mandarin and Malay, inspired by the familiar sights, sounds, colours and culture of Singapore. The cohesive yet eclectic range of tunes showcases the trademark versatility of the home-grown group, blending jazz-infused pop, gospel, barbershop, and more. A longing for home figures on the lyrics of many tracks, including My Old Hometown, Katong and Come Home. Respected names on the local music scene feature heavily on the album. These include original songs and arrangements by popular local names such as Dick Lee, Peter Lee, John Lee, Ruth Ling, Chen Jiaming and Sydney Tan. The album is retailing at S$20 at selected stores.
Blue Intentions
Blue Intentions, one of the newest additions to Singapore's jazz a cappella circle, is an a cappella sextet comprising past and present members of Resonance, Equivox, and Verve Enharmonics (defunct). Bonded by our common love of good food (???? with or without the ??), board games (two sheep for grain and ore?), the old standards, the new wave, synocopated rhythm and vocal harmony, Blue Intentions is committed to exploring the boundaries of the human voice, boldly scatting our way into territories where no (wo)man has scatted before. Blue Intentions is Shin Ni (soprano), Gail (alto), Ern Theng (tenor), Alan (baritone), Chris (bass), and Edmund (vocal percussion).
